The study, a fundamental one for water space in housing environment, is to investigate a critical criterion which shall be taken into account when water space is introduced, and to find characteristic of planning appeared in the process and influence on design effect. And the result of the study is as below;Firstly, for water space, concept setting and shift in awareness are required. First of all, water space shall be considered as one of design elements (rather than just landscape elements) which plays a role in providing aesthetic function in housing environment and influencing on habitant’s mental as well as satisfying desire for nature, reducing tension and providing refresh. Secondly, the most important thing in introducing water space is a location of water space. It is because water space can appeal to habitant and generate inspiration only when the water space has spatial arrangement which is organically harmonized with housing environment. In order to have harmonious spatial arrangement, location of water space shall be determined prior to consideration of condition, type and physical limitation of water space. Thirdly, for introduction of water space, appropriate strategy (figure of water space+ expression technique) for each type shall be considered as the function, role, characteristic, expression type, design effect, technical feature are varied by location of water space. The most distinguished aspect for each type is function and role (center of water space, connection of inner-outer water space and outside of water space) while introduction effect which shall be commonly introduced are defined as formativeness generated via symmetry and reflection, expandability of space via horizontality, integration and separation of space via clarity and separation of space via liquidity.

본 연구는 주거환경 수공간 디자인에 대한 기초적 연구의 성격으로 수공간 도입시 가장 중요하게 고려해야 할 사항은 어떤 것이며 그 과정에서 나타나는 계획적 특성, 그리고 그로 인해 얻어지는 디자인 효과는 무엇인지에 대해 분석하는 것이다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 수공간에 대해 다음과 같은 개념설정과 인식의 전환이 필요하다. 우선적으로 수공간은 단순한 조경요소가 아닌 주거환경에서 미적 기능과 거주자의 심리에 큰 영향을 주며 자연에 대한 욕구 충족과 긴장감의 해소, 재충전의 기회를 줄 수 있는 디자인 요소로 인식해야 한다. 둘째, 수공간 도입에서 가장 중요한 것은 도입위치이다. 그 이유는 수공간과 주거환경이 유기적으로 조화를 이루는 공간적 배열을 가질 때 비로소 수공간은 거주자에게 호소력 을 가지며 여러 가지 감흥을 유발시킬 수 있기 때문이다. 조화로운 공간적 배열을 가지기 위해서는 수공간의 상태나 존 재 방식 및 물리적 한계의 형태 모색 이전에 도입 위치의 결정이 선행되어야 하는 것이다. 셋째, 수공간 도입은 그 위치에 따라서 기능 및 역할, 계획 특성, 표현 방식, 디자인 효과, 기술적 특징 부분에서 차이를 드러내기 때문에 각 유형에 적합한 도입 전략(수공간형태+연출기법)을 취해야 한다. 유형별 가장 큰 차이점은 기능 및 역할(내부수공간-중심, 내ㆍ외부수공간-연결, 외부수공간-배경)에 대한 것이고 공통 으로 주목해야할 도입효과는 대칭과 반사를 통한 조형성, 수평성을 통한 공간의 확장성, 투명성으로 인한 공간의 통합 과 분리, 유동성으로 인한 공간의 분리 등으로 정리될 수 있다.
