The Purpose of this study is to explore that an ideal teacher in the analects of Confucius. To accomplish this end, we critically examine a perspective for teacher‘s role which has been generally accepted. The view that generally accepted tends to overlook social and cultural context. In this point, a generally accepted idea has a limitation in terms of an ideal teacher suited to modern society. Especially, our society was influenced by a Confucius for a long time and has had some features characterized by a Confucius. So we need to review a teacher’s role in the analects of Confucius. An idea of a Confucius was a useful text to understand our education history. According to a Confucius, teacher as a cleric has a limitation to maintain an external conditions to performing educational practices. In the same vein, teacher as a worker need to examine in a sense of love and respect and teacher as an expert need to review focus on an ethical aspect, i.e. integrity or fairness. In terms of leadership, teacher’s leadership is very important in the classroom to perform a successful roles. A cognitive leadership of a teacher becomes a role model continued to explore knowledge world where student lead. A transformational leadership of a teacher emphasizes seriously do one’s best to their students. And an emotional leadership of a teacher show them an importance of an endless self-reflection. In Conclusion, each perspective for teacher role which is generally accepted is need to be modified or complemented from the standpoint of the analects of Confucius. And in this context, today’s teacher role should have leadership in three aspect, namely cognitive, transformational and emotional leadership.

이 논문은『논어』를 중심으로 이상적인 교사의 모습과 리더십에 대해 살펴보고, 이런 논의가 오늘날 교사의 역할과 관련하여 제시하고 있는 시사점을 검토한다. 전통적으로 유교 문화의 영향을 오랜 시간 받아온 우리나라의 경우 유학의 논리에 비추어 교사의 역할을 검토할 필요가 있다. 『논어』에 나타난 교사의 모습은 인지적·실천적·윤리적 측면에서 오늘날 교사들에게 이상적인 교사의 모습과 관련해 모종의 시사하는 바를 가지고 있다. 이런 논의는 교사가 교육 현장의 리더라는 점에서 현대 사회의 리더십 이론에 비추어 설명될 필요도 있다. 이 연구는 『논어』에 나타난 교사의 모습과 현대적 리더십의 관점이 모종의 관련을 맺고 있음을 상정하고 있다. 『논어』에 나타난 이상적인 교사의 모습은 인지적·변혁적·감성적 측면에서 리더로서 교사가 갖추어야 하는 자질이나 덕목과 밀접한 관계를 맺고 있다.
