This paper is focus on reading the characteristic and structure of the Mencius' moral theory. Mencius had taken a step to analysis on the innate emotional mind at first. That mind have a moral characteristic of human given by the heaven, with connected with the goodness. Mencius had thought that human nature is intrinsically good, the moral doing is the ability to do get the four moral value like the inherent morality of human being which driven by the moral mind. In this paper, I have presented Mencius' moral theory firstly based on the the universe is a moral universe is a given. Humans are situated in this moral universe, from which we derive our own morality. Mencius like Confucius talk about ‘Heaven’s Mandate’—the moral commandment from Heaven. Mencius said that Nature does not have moral attributes; rather, Nature is rendered moral by humans’ moralistic interpretation. Mencius insisted that morality is merely determined by human conventions and that there are no moral truths independent of human judgments and beliefs. And in the Mencius' moral theory our human society is a combined intellectual quest. The understanding of one’s moral essence and the understanding of the moral essence of the universe can complement each other.

인간은 사회를 구성하여 자신의 삶을 영위해 가는 존재이다. 그리고 그 사회 속에서 윤리 도덕적으로 올바른 행위를 추구하고자 한다. 이때 어떤 행위가 올바른지에 대해 윤리도덕적 판단이 수반하게 된다. 동양의 유가사상은 이런 문제들에 대해 오래 동안 많은 논의를 전개 해 온 학문적 전통을 지니고 있다. 공자의 학설을 정통으로 계승하였다고 인정받고 있는 맹자의 윤리사상은 인간을 윤리적 존재로 파악하는 것에서 논의가 전개된다. 맹자의 사유의 근저에는 인간은 선천적으로 도덕적 마음(良心)을 지니고 있는데, 이것이 바로 인간과 다른 동물을 구별하는 본질적 특징이며, 윤리도덕을 실현할 수 있는 가장 중요한 동기라는 생각이 자리하고 있다. 맹자가 설명하는 윤리도덕의 학설과 이론을 제대로 이해하기 위해서는 맹자가 인간의 윤리도덕을 설명하는 방법에 ‘良心’이라는 용어를 최초로 도입하였다는 점을 주목할 필요가 있다. 그에 의하면, 이 良心은 인간의 마음에서 나오는 것으로 생득적으로 善한 것으로 규정된다. 이런 사유방식을 토대로 그는 性善說로 자신의 윤리적 논의를 확대시킨다. 맹자의 윤리사상의 구조 속에서 良心과 性善說은 仁義禮智라는 도덕적 가치와 밀접하게 연계되어 있다. 맹자의 윤리설은 良心에 대한 존재를 확인시키는 것에서 시작하여, 인간의 본질적 성품은 착하다는 것으로 전개되며, 仁義禮智라는 인간의 대표적인 도덕적 덕목들을 실현하는 것이 삶의 목표가 되어야 한다는 것으로 요약될 수 있다.
