Stories of Māra refer to lie scattered in texts of early Buddhist scriptures. While Buddha's stories are mentioned consistently, Māra's stories may seem coarse and unfold roughly. This study is intended to shed new light on the stories connected to Māra, which seem inconsistent at first sight, from the perspective of esthetics. The chapter in connection with "Māra viewed from the esthetics of existence" is as follows: it is that the image of Māra exists with vital force rather than different in ancient Indian relievos or sculpture. Also in philological data, Māra makes stories with strong sense of existence. The substance of the chapter associated with the "symbolical meaning of Pāvā, the diabolical place name" is as follows: with surprise, the crucial name of the place where Buddha passed away as he had received an offering from Cunda has a diabolical character in terms of etymology. It presents the ground that suggests Buddha's misfortune in Buddhist scriptures. In the theme of "Māra's ambush shown in the esthetics of concealment," Māra reveals her concealed aspect of aggression as she changes her image into many different forms. Māra, in the early Buddhist texts, poured everything he/she had to jeopardize Buddha's teachings and the way Buddha intended to go. Various forms that Māra unfolds show distinctive tones also from an esthetic point of view.
