Effects of Mentoring Program on Adjustment to College and Academic Self-Efficacy in University Freshman

The purpose was to investigate the effects of mentoring program in University freshman. The program, which was carried out for the first time among universities in Korea, was designed to help university freshmen with increasing adjustment to college life and academic self-efficacy. The program was developed according to the psychosocial function model- role modeling, counseling, acceptance and confirmation, and friendship. The subjects of this study were 80 students. Data were analyzed using χ2- test, Fisher's exact test, t-test and paired t-test with SPSS WIN Program. The results of this study were as follows. First, mentoring program affected significantly on improvement of experimental group's adjustment to college. Second, mentoring program affected significantly on improvement of experimental group's academic self-efficacy. Mentoring program can be effective one to the adjustment to college and the academic self-efficacy. Therefore suggest as follows. Mentoring program expands to the whole college students and research on the effect is carried out repeatedly.
