연구의 목적은 집단 미술치료가 센터 이용아동의 자아존중감에 영향을 미치는 가에 관한 연구이다. 연구대상으로는 S시 청소년센터의 이용하는 7세～9세 아동 중 선정된 집단 미술치료가 필요하다고 판단한 남, 여 아동 5명을 대상으로 한 결과 자아존중감 전체와 하위영역인 총체적 자아존중감, 사회적 자아존중감, 가정에서의 자아존중감, 학교에서의 자아존중감 모두 통계적으로 유의미한 차이가 있는 것으로 나타나 집단미술치료가 센터 이용아동의 자아존중감 향상에 긍정적으로 영향을 미친 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구 결과를 통해 센터을 이용하는 아동들에 대한 향후 발전방안을 제언해 보았다.
