The purpose of this study is to analyze and compare the difference between animation and live-action remake of the <101 Dalmatians>, especially in the scene direction and character development. This study is also to analyze the different technique to approach human and animal characters as well as scene direction in the same sequence. There are many similarities between animation and live-action, however, live-action version tends to more focus on the story. In some cases, new characters, who had no appearance in the original animation, would be added to the story. This often helps enrich and extend the story of live-action version. Live-action version also tends to reduce, sometimes completely eliminate the role of some animal characters and increases the role of human characters by expressing the characters’ relationship like conflicts. Basically they are based on the same story, so they both have much in common for the most part. However, there are some difference in the scene direction and character expression, due to the inherent difference between two mediums.

본 연구에서는 1961년에 제작된 디즈니 애니메이션 <101마리 달마시안>과 1996년에 영화로 리메이크된 <101마리 달마시안>의 장면구도와 캐릭터 표현방식을 비교분석해 보고자 하였다. 동일한 장면에서의 애니 메이션과 영화의 연출이 어떤 차이를 보이고 있으며, 사람 캐릭터와 동물 캐릭터의 표현에 어떤 차이가 있는지를 분석하였다. 애니메이션과 동일한 장면의 영화 연출 장면에서는 익숙함이 느껴졌지만, 영화에서 는 스토리에 좀 더 비중을 두고 전개하는 경향이 있었고, 등장인물이 증가되어 스토리가 추가되는 경향이 있었다. 또한 영화에서는 애니메이션에 비해 인물 캐릭터간의 갈등관계 등 인간관계를 나타내는 표현에 비중을 두는 경향이 있었으며, 상대적으로 동물 캐릭터의 표현이 축소되거나 생략되는 경향이 있었다. 동 일한 스토리를 표현하고 있기 때문에 유사한 표현 방식이 활용되기도 하지만, 애니메이션과 영화는 매체 의 특성이 다르기 때문에 장면 연출과 캐릭터 표현방식에서는 차이를 보이고 있었다.
