The formative language of the talisman represents the invisible mystical world far beyond the ordinary human ability. This study is one of the serial researches to find the artistic characteristics and value of the talisman which symbolize the eastern thought and philosophy. In particular, this study focused on close classification and analysis of the eastern numerical graphics of the talisman contemplates the meanings forged by various formative characteristics. This study aims to present a new perspective of the talisman as a modern artistic language by shedding a new light on the talisman which contains rich symbolic images. It would be helpful to identify the fundamental concept of graphic art as the art of lines and as a cornerstone for rediscovering an ancient artistic language and developing it into other symbolic art forms.

부적의 조형언어는 평범한 인간의 능력을 넘어서 보이지 않는 신비의 세계와의 소통을 시각적으로 재현한 것이다. 본 논문은 동양의 사상과 철학을 표상하는 독특한 조형언어인 부적의 그래픽이 지닌 조형예술적 특성과 가치를 논구하는 작업의 일환으로 진행된 것이다. 특히 동양의 수(數) 개념을 근간으로 하는 부적 의 그래픽들을 면밀하게 분류, 분석하는 것에 그 초점을 맞춘 본 논문에서는 다양한 외형적 특징들에 의 해 형성되는 의미들에 대하여 살펴보았다. 본 논문은 상징적 이미지들의 풍성함을 간직하고 있는 복합기 호체 부적을 새롭게 조명하여 현대적인 조형언어로서의 새로운 시계(視界)를 제시하는 것을 연구의 목적으 로 하고 있다. 이러한 연구는 선의 예술로서의 그래픽아트가 지닌 근원적 개념 파악에 도움이 될 것이며, 고대적인 조형언어를 재발견하여 또 다른 상징적 형태와 예술적 형상으로 전개시키는 것에 초석이 될 것 이다.
