The desire to improve the quality of life for the baby boomer generation coming to retirement appears to prepare for ecological rural life based on the eco-friendly house. The object of this paper is to identify the urban citizens’ awareness on eco-friendly house through the preference survey and analysis targeting urban citizens, and to suggest the standards of ecologically stable, future-oriented house. According to the result, this paper figured out that Korean Traditional plus Western style house, which combines traditional Hwangtoh(natural soil for good health) house-style in harmony with nature and stable western-style with a fair view is preferred as respondents' preferred style of eco-friendly house and eco-friendly image to pursue.

본 연구는 친환경 주택과 관련된 도시에 거주하는 40대 이상 성인들의 요구사항, 즉 대지 및 주택면적은 어느 정도를 원하는지, 필요한 방의 개수와 기능은 무엇인지, 단위 당 공사비와 총 공사비에 얼마를 지불할 의향이 있는지, 또한 그들이 생각하는 현 단독주택의 문제는 무엇이고 앞으로 짓고 싶은 친환경 주택의 여러 특징은 무엇인지 등을 규명하고자 한다. 이러한 내용들에 대한 정보는 친환경 주택을 갖고자 하는 사람들에게는 물론, 친환경 주택과 관련된 모든 건축관계인(설계자, 시공자, 연구자 등)에게도 유용하게 사용될 것으로 판단된다.
