This study aims to try to understand the basic social culture of 15～16th century as a way to overcome the only aspect of architectural approach for the upper class houses. In Yangdong Fork Village, the two head family houses of Gyeongju Son's are the most important because of the age and their originality as well. First of all, this study investigated the collections of Gyeongju Son's family and interviewed the people who lived in the houses. Next, comparative examinations of the marriage system and the right of succession between the two (early and late) era of chosun dynasty was practiced Finally, we got some results as follows : (1) Seobackdang was built in before 1457 of Sonso's marriage according to the social culture of that time. And the possibility of Ryu's possession is higher than anything, in the aspect of madam Ryu's inheritance to the 4th son. (2) This house shows the 15～16th century's social change well. Especially, the existence of mid-sarang in seobackdang(15C) distinguished the other gwangajung(16C).

본 연구는 조선전기인 1457년 건축된 것으로 알려진 서백당에 관한 사회생활사적 접근을 시도하였다. 남귀여가(서류부가)의 혼속이 일반적이었던 상황에서는 장자에게 가통을 이어주는 종법적 질서의 성립과 동족마을의 형성은 불가능하다. 이러한 상황을 경주 손씨 집안에 전해오는 문집과 서적을 중심으로 세밀하게 검토하고 종손과 문중의 도움을 받아 검증함으로써 기존 건축적 연구의 한계점을 극복하고자 하였다. 조선전기의 혼속과 상속관행으로 보아 손소가 1457년에 건립한 것으로 알려진 서백당은 손소의 장인이었던 유복하의 집이었을 가능성이 매우 높고, 그렇다면 건축시기가 더 앞설 수도 있다. 유씨 부인은 손소의 넷째 아들인 계돈에게 서백당을 물려주었고, 손씨 집안의 종통은 둘째 중돈이 물려받아 관가정이 약 400여년간 종가집으로서의 역할을 담당하였다. 그러나 1924년 관가정으로부터 서백당으로 종가를 이전하는 역사가 이루어졌고, 이러한 과정에서 관가정의 영당을 보수하고 서백당의 사당을 신축하는 등의 변화가 일부 있었다.
