The purpose of this study was to analyze the impact of internet addiction by self-esteem level of college students. Most of the existing research has introduced a variety of methods to treat the addiction but the study for casual factors are not entirely satisfactory. Internet addiction is intensified by a variety of casual factors, but during the survey to validate the hypothesis that the biggest impact is the self-esteem level. According to this study, psychological factors of self-esteem is caused an internet addiction than social environmental factor and familial factor. The results of this study can be utilized in a variety of programs to increase the level of self-esteem as a reference for the treatment of internet addiction.

본 연구는 대학생들을 대상으로 자존감 수준이 인터넷 중독에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 기존 연구의 대부분은 중독을 치료하기 위한 다양한 방법을 소개하고 있지만 원인적 요소에 대한 연구는 미진한 실정 이다. 인터넷 중독은 다양한 변인에 의해 심화되지만 그 중에 가장 큰 영향 요소가 자존감 수준일 것이라 는 가설을 설정하고 설문을 통하여 가설을 검증하는 방법으로 진행하였다. 연구 결과에 따르면, 사회 환경 적 요인이나 가정 환경적 요인보다 심리적 요인인 자존감 수준이 인터넷 중독을 가져오는 주요 변인으로 나타났다. 즉, 자존감 수준이 낮을수록 인터넷 중독이 심화되는 것으로 조사되었다. 본 연구의 결과물은 향후 인터넷 중독 치료를 위한 다양한 프로그램에 자존감 수준을 높이기 위한 참고자료로 활용될 수 있을 것이다.
