Many church members in Korea think that works for church are holy but jobs in the world are not holy. They regard pastorate as sacred vocation, but other occupations as secular job. They also treat pastorate as the utmost position in church, while other duties as inferior one. But these kinds of thinking or attitudes are not Biblical nor from God’s will. God’s calling begin with salvation through Jesus Christ, our Savior and fellowship with God in Christ. This call proceeds to calling for ministries. All the duties in church and occupations in the world ought to choose or be given according to God’s calling. God’s calling makes Christians be able to discern its scope by discovering and developing individual’s gifts. And specific duty or job is determined by one’s own research or church leaders or other peoples’ counsel or advice. All the duties and occupations are equal on the basis of God’s calling. Pastorate, however, has a special role apart from other works, that is, pastor is a person who is entrusted God’s Word. The Bible is the only standard for man’s faith and life, and teaches how to love God and love one’s neighbors.

한국교회에 널리 퍼져있는 교회의 안과 밖을 성속(聖俗)으로 나누고, 목사 직을 성직으로, 다른 직업을 세속직으로 구분하는 것은 성경적이 아니다. 목사 직은 교회 내에서 최고위직이고 다른 직분이나 일반 교인들은 하위직으로 취 급하는 것은 하나님의 뜻이 아니다. 하나님의 부르심은 예수 그리스도를 통해 주어지는 구원과 하나님과의 교제 에서 출발한다. 그리고 이 부르심에서 나아가 사역에로의 부르심이 있게 된다. 모든 사역을 위한 직분이나 직업은 하나님의 부르심을 따라 주어지거나 선택해 야 한다. 하나님의 부르심은 먼저 성령님께서 각자에게 주신 은사를 확인함으 로써 일정의 선택의 범위가 주어진다. 그리고 개인적으로 또는 이웃이나 교회 를 통해서 확증되는 가운데 특정한 직분이나 직업을 선택하거나 받게 된다. 모든 직분과 직업은 하나님의 부르심에 있어서 동등한 위치를 지닌다. 그러 나 목사에게 하나님의 말씀이 맡겨졌다는 점에서 목사직은 특별한 기능을 지 닌다. 왜냐하면 하나님의 말씀은 사람의 믿음과 생활의 표준이요, 모든 삶에서 기억하고 순종해야 할, 하나님을 사랑하고 이웃을 사랑할 것을 가르쳐 주기 때 문이다.
