This study was to analyze difference in perception on job characteristics, role conflicts in the organization and job satisfaction of firefighting public servants according to type of service. Accordingly, the followings were found; first they perceived that those who worked in firefighting or emergency call department were relatively more dangerous that administrative workers, that their job needed urgency, and that they should stand‐by and accept shift work. Second, in role conflicts in the organization, emergency workers had more role conflicts than firefighters and administrative workers, and firefighters and emergency workers perceived that their roles were ambiguous and obscure than those of firefighting administrative workers. Additionally, they perceived that roles of administrative workers were overloaded comparing to firefighters and emergency workers. Third, in the aspect of job satisfaction, firefighters and emergency workers had more job satisfaction than administrative workers, and felt more sense of fulfillment. On the other hand, firefighters had more pride than emergency workers and administrative workers.
