This research investigated the effects of song lyrics in perceiving preferences of music listening. The researchers composed two different songs with similar styles of contemporary rock music with each including sacred and secular texts. A total of 167 christians who attend workshops regularly listened to two songs consecutively; one composed of sacred texts and the other with secular texts and vice versa. Individual responses to each songs were to be checked on seven likert scales. Results showed that participants showed different responses to each song lyrics: songs with sacred texts were preferred over songs with secular ones. Their age also influenced lyric preference, for the older participants seemed more influenced than the younger participants in listening to sacred lyric songs.
