The purpose of this study is to suggest basic materials for planning fitness programs whose object is to prevent obesity and enhance growth and physical fitness for obese children by examining the effect of 12-week mat gymnastics program on Adiponectin, growth hormone, and physical fitness of male obese children. The participants were 40 obese children in fourth grade of elementary school and they exercised 4 times a week for 12 weeks after being divided into two groups of a mat gymnastics group of 20 and a control group of 20. SPSS 18.0 program was used for data processing and two-way ANOVA with repeated measure was conducted. This study has found that Adiponectin and growth hormone increased significantly after exercise in the mat gymnastics group, and among the groups, the mat gymnastics group showed higher levels of them after exercise than the control group. Second, there were increases in all the variables of physical fitness(muscular strength, muscular endurance, Power, flexibility, cardiovascular endurance) after exercise in the mat gymnastics group, and among the groups, the mat gymnastics group showed higher levels of them after exercise than the control group. Comprehensively, Mat Gymnastics conducted on obese children has been found to be an effective exercise method to prevent obesity and enhance physical fitness. However, more studies focusing on other various exercise methods for the health of obese children is considered to be continued since definite conclusion can not be made by the result of only this study.
