This paper aims to confirm humanization of corrections at a point of view of the publicness and to make clear that the correctional studies is practical studies to search practice to humanism. And expanding the horizons of publicness to corrections, this paper enlarges focus of public philosophy. So frist, I investigated the etymological meaning of words on the concept of the publicness. Second, Through Hannah Arendt who emphasized that publicness was created horizontally by human action, I looked at what conditions publicness is flowering. As a result, I have come to understand flowering of publicness in Hannah Arendt is a close connection individual’s self-realization and exhibition of dignity through dialogue in relation to Self-Other. Based on this, I supposed that publicness in corrections can open out in humanization of corrections through restorative justice and correctional human science through philosophical counseling This study provides a cooperation point for a later study that will find that the correctional studies is practical studies to humanism focus on Confucian and Christianity.

본고의 목적은 교정의 인간화를 공공성의 관점에 확인하여 교정학을 휴머니즘에의 실천을 탐구하는 실천학임을 밝히고, 공공철학이 지향하는 공공성의 지평을 교정의 영역에까지 확대하여 공공철학의 연구의 범위를 확장하는 데에 있다. 이를 위해서 먼저 공공철학의 키워드인 공공성의 어원적 의미를 고찰하고, 공공성이 사람들의 활동에 의해서 수평적으로 창출됨을 처음으로 강조한 한나 아렌트에 게 있어서 공공성이 어떤 조건에서 개화되는지를 살펴보았다. 그 결과 한나 아렌트에게 있어서 공공성이 공적 영역(public realm)처럼 공간개념을 함축하면서 타자 관계에서의 커뮤니케이션을 통해서 개인의 자기실현과 존엄이 발휘되는 것과 밀접한 관계가 있고, 타자성에 입각한 공공성임을 알았다. 이를 바탕으로 교정에 있어서의 공공성의 개화가 회복적 사법에서 본 교정의 인간화와 철학상담에서 본 교정인문학을 통해서 가능함을 상정할 수 있었다. 인격 형성을 위한 윤리적 철학적 교화의 필요성을 역설한 본 연구는, 活私化의 방안을 안으로부터의 깨달음(enlightenment from within)으로 실현하려는 유교와 신에 대한 밖으로부터의 구원(salvation from without)에서 찾는 기독교를 중심으로 구명하여 종교적으로 접근하려는 이후의 연구와 함께, 교정학을 휴머니즘을 실천하는 인간학으로 재조명하려는 작업이 된다.
