Adolescent Readers’ meaning construction of texts and the patterns of creative thinking Lee, Soon-young․Kim, Joo-hwan The purpose of this study was to investigate the relations between reading and creativity. For this purpose, the study reviewed the recent creativity model and the complex relations between reading and creativity, especially highlighting three major characteristics embedded in psychological processes of reading: 1) creative meaning construction of text, 2) the role of meta-cognition as the core ability for creative thinking. 3) the affective sharing and social communications with various objects of the world through the text. Three major patterns of creative thinking and responses were found: 1) active empathy with writer’s idea and the various issues of the world, 2) expanding the depth of the constructed meaning, and 3) offering different or opposite ideas. The findings and discussions of this study contribute to clarify the implications of reading as the instructional methods for educating and promoting creativity.
