The purpose of this study was to measure the concentrations of the trace elements and the water-soluble ions contained in PM10. For this purpose, the fine particles were collected by a cascade impactor at two sampling sites of Site M and Site U during 6 months from Sep. 1999 to Feb. 2000. Twenty two elements and 10 major ionic species were analyzed. The range of PM10 concentration was 8.63~42.56 μg/m3 at Site M and 13.4~45.86 μg/m3 at Site U, respectively. The concentrations of PM10 particles at both sites were greatly fluctuated. The concentrations of NH4 + and Na+ for cation, and SO4 2−, Cl− and NO3 − for anion were higher than any other cation or anion species. The contents of trace elements were extremely low in the PM10 particles. Among these elements analyzed in this study, S was greatly contained in the fine particles. The average concentration of S was 904.4 μg/m3 at Site M and 1267.3 μg/m3 at Site U, respectively. In coarse particles, Na and Si were the highest species. This indicates the chemical constitutes of the coarse particles were attributed to the soil and sea salt origins.

청정지역인 제주지역에서 대기중 미세먼지의 화학적 특성을 검토하기 위해 다단먼지포집기 를 이용하여 미세먼지를 포 집하고 PM10을 조대입자와 미세입자로 분류하여 성분분석을 하였다. 측정기간 동안 PM10의 농도는 site M과 site U에 서 각각 8.63~42.56 μg/m3, 13.4~45.86 μg/m3로 Site U에서 다소 높게 나타났다. 수용성 이온 성분은 양이온 성분중에 NH4 +과 Na+ 농도가 높게 나타났으며, 음이온 성분중에 SO4 2−, Cl−, NO3 − 농도가 높게 나타났다. 또한 제주지역 PM10의 미량원소는 대부분 극미량으로 나타났고, 분석대상 원소 중 농도가 가장 높게 나타난 것은 S 이었다. Site M과 Site U에 서 S의 평균농도는 각각 904.4 ng/m3, 1267.3 ng/m3으로서 주로 미세입자의 형태로 배출되고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 그리 고 조대입자에서 미량원소의 농도는 Na > Si > S > Ca > Fe > K 순으로 높게 나타나 해염과 토양기원의 성분들이 우세하 게 나타난 걸로 평가되었다. 지점별로는 평균농도의 차이가 다소 있지만, 농도분포 경향은 거 의 유사하게 나타났다.
