This study explored how the DISC profile test by Dr. William Marston can be used for church’s premarital education. The DISC profile system, which classifies human behavior into four types of dominance, influence, steadiness, and conscientiousness by combining two axes of the speed and the priority, describes how each person expresses his or her emotion with different behaviors. It aimed to help couples to enjoy happiness in God -created family through practicing oneness and devotion by acknowledging and understanding differences of each other. In order to accomplish this purpose, fifty participants at G church in Gyeongsangbuk-Do shared their stories of conflicts they had experienced, took DISC profile test, analyzed their conflicts by means of DISC, and discussed how to resolve these conflicts. Results showed that the three couple types with the highest frequency were influent male and dominant female, influent male and conscientious female, and steady male and influent female. These types all included one person of influent type, and these couples experienced conflicts due to unsystematic and impromptu tendency and difficulty in completing the tasks. As shown in the literature, the dominant person had troubles because of stubbornness and lack of attentive listening, the conscientious person due to lack of flexibility, and the steady person because of too much yielding. It showed that weaknesses of each DISC type suggested in the literature worked as an initiating factor for conflicts; however, when both parties realized the differences, and how these make their future spouses feel uneasy, they found ways to deal with conflicts to build happy family where members unite and devote for each other.

본 연구는 William Marston의 DISC 행동유형검사가 어떻게 교회의 예비부부교육에 활용될 수 있는지에 대해 탐색하였다. DISC 행동유형검사는 속도와 우선순위의 축을 결합하여 인간의 행동 유형을 주도형, 사교형, 안정형, 신중형의 네 가지로 분류하여 감정이 어떻게 다양한 행동양식으로 표현되고 변하는지를 그들의 자아인식에 기인한 경험과 관계로 설명한다. DISC 행동유형검사를 활용한 예비부부 교육은 다른 환경에서 성장한 예비부부가 서로의 차이를 인식하고 이해함으로써 더욱 연합하고 헌신하여 하나님께서 창조하신 가정 안에서 행복을 누릴 수 있도록 돕는 데에 그 목적이 있다. 구체적으로 경상북도에 있는 G교회의 결혼예비학교 참여자 50명을 대상으로 각 커플이 경험하는 갈등의 유형을 공유하고 DISC 행동유형검사를 실시하여 그 갈등을 재해석하며 갈등의 해결방법에 대해 논의했다. 연구결과 25쌍의 예비부부 중 가장 많은 유형은 사교형 남성과 주도형 여성, 사교형 남성과 신중형 여성, 안정형 남성과 사교형 여성이었다. 세 유형 모두 사교형이 포함된 특징이 있으며 이들의 갈등은 비체계성과 즉흥성, 완료의 어려움에 기인하여 나타났다. 행동유형의 특징에서 볼 수 있듯이 주도형은 비경청과 고집, 신중형은 유연성의 부족, 안정형은 지나친 양보 등이 갈등의 원인으로 지적되었다. 연구의 참여자들은 문헌에서 발견한 각 유형의 약점이 갈등의 요인으로 작용한다는 것과 그들의 약점과 두려움이 상대방에게 어떤 어려움을 느끼게 하는지에 대해서 발견하였다. 또한 건강한 관계를 위해 어떤 노력을 시도해야 하는지에 대해 논의하였다. 이러한 갈등 요인이 틀린 것이 아닌 다른 것임을 인식했을 때 예비 남편과 아내가 어떻게 연합하고 헌신하여 행복한 결혼생활을 운영해야 할지에 대한 방안을 도출할 수 있었다.
