A Study on Auditory Images in Jeoung, Ji-yong’s Poetry

This Study sets on the Aural Images in Jeong, Ji-yong’s poetry. In 1930’s, people had got a great shock for Jeong, Ji-young’s poetry, as he desplayed unique ways of using images So Lots of Studies concentrates on Visual Images on his poetry and Modernity with ocularcentrism. But Ocularcentrism occurs some problems. It not only makes the other sensories be out but also be gone backward the subject. Also studies on In Jeong, Ji-yong’s poetry which concentrated on visual images leave something desired. So this Study sets on the auditory images in Jeong, Ii-yong’s poetry. In his poetry, modernity causes the division of Subject and it comes out metallic sound like steam whistle of a train or a ferry boat and sounds of hands of a timepiece. And these sounds make the poetic subject could not maintain durability of world-perception. But the poetic subject in Jeong, Ji-yong’s poetry recognizes that the world around itself is broken and it can not return to peaceful Utopia which in its childhood was beautiful. But affection of the lost world could be heard a small sound which came from long distance. These sounds are very weak, sensitive and beautiful. The poetic words linked these sounds are“ whisper”,“ flutter”, “prattle”. These are from a small and fragile objects like birds, bees, flowers and streams those the poetic subject loves. These sounds combine the past and the present time and faraway and here. In Jeong, Ji-yong’s second poetical works『 Baekrokdam』, poetic subject comes out into lifeworld and the sounds also become big and detail. Though the real sound what poetic subject desire is idealistic, poetic subject strarts to listen around its world. From animals, friends, mountains, the poetic subject hear the sounds bigger and nearer.
