The purpose of this paper lies in suggesting a Basic Korean Emi List, which is subject to provide foreign students studying Korean as a foreign language. Having observed the established Korean text books and the major learning Korean dictionaries, we found that there are considerable amount of discrepancy among their Emi Lists. Therefore, we need to set up a new way of selecting Emi list for our purpose. The fist way to select Basic Emi List is to sort out Korean Emi from corpora in terms of frequency; and, second, to collect Emi data from various Korean institutes, previous articles, as well as Korean dictionaries. After that, we selected Emis which are presented commonly in them. Concretely, we follow the six standards projected in An-juho(2004), Kim-kwanghay(2003), while excluding abbreviated words, combined words, quoted words, colloquial words, archaic words, obsolete words. Consequently the final Emi List selected by the aforementioned are collectively 83 words, among them pre-ending Emi 5, connecting Emi 46, word-class switching Emi 7, ending Emi 25, respectively. One thing to mention, because selecting Emi is basically performed in terms of form, not of meaning, for example, we did not separate –(u)ese of ‘cause’, from –(u)ese of ‘sequence’. Therefore, we need to have Emi List which is subdivided by meaning, leaving it till late on.

본고의 목적은 한국어를 배우는 외국인들에게 교수할 기본 어미 목록을 선정 하는 것이다. 기존 한국어 교재들과, 한국어 학습 사전들을 살펴본 결과 어미 목록들 사이에 상당한 차이가 있었기 때문에, 기본 어미를 재선정해야 할 필요 성이 있었다. 기본 어미 선정 방법은 말뭉치의 빈도수가 높은 어미들뿐만 아니라 각 기관 의 자료, 선행연구들의 자료, 사전의 어미 제시 목록 들을 모두 수집하여 겹쳐 지는 부분을 우선적으로 선정했다. 구체적으로 안주호(2004)와 김광해(2003)에 서 제시한 어미의 제시 순서 6가지를 기준으로 하되, 준말, 결합형, 인용하는 말, 구어적인 말, 옛말, 예스러운 말은 제외했다. 이렇게 하여 선정된 어미는 선어말어미 5개, 연결 어미 46개, 전성 어미 7개, 종결 어미 25개로 모두 83개 이다. 83의 숫자는 종성의 유무에 따라 달라지지만 쓰임이 같으므로 한 개의 어미로 보고 하나로 세었다. 그러나 ‘아/어서’같은 경우 ‘순서’를 나타낼 수도 있고 ‘이유’를 나 타낼 수도 있기 때문에 의미적인 부분에서는 이것을 하나로 보 기에 미흡한 점이 있다. 본고에서는 이들 어미들은 형태적인 측면에서 기본어미를 선정했기 때문에 의미적인 부분은 후고로 미루기로 한다. 따라서 후고에서는 의미적인 부분을 고려한 기본 어미를 선정하는 작업이 필요하다고 본다.
