This study aims to examine structural characteristics and semantic network by analysis on traditional tales of hero transmitted orally in region of inner Mongolia. A hero means life index to Mongolian who have to confront with severe nature constantly. It is essential that historic tale is majority in Mongolian tales. Not only story of noble hero but also story of popular hero is distributed in typical hero story over wide inner Mongolian region. But it is noteworthy that noble hero is outnumbered by popular hero. This means that the tale has been discredited in the process of oral transmission and reflected by regionality and nowness of inner Mongolia where sinicizing has grown. Although there are basic form of hero who was defeated before he achieve his goal in popular hero stories, such as ‘a ssireum wrestler in Pparin’ and ‘Huntsman Kairif’ in Mongolian and ‘A baby commander’ and ‘Utoori’, there is many so called variant form of hero born in humble and accomplish his objective by his superior ability, such as ‘Clothe of tiger king’ and ‘Old story of Ulanppaauar’. The main plot of this kind of variant story of heroic deed is formed by victory of public putting class conflicts in front with historical materialism. However not all variant form of hero stories present class conflicts. Some hero such as ‘treasure key’ and ‘brave chikeraku’ show general discord.

본고는 내몽골 지역에서 전해 내려오는 대표적인 영웅이야기를 분석하여 구 조적 특성과 의미망을 고찰하는데 목적이 있다. 가혹한 자연과 끊임없이 대결을 벌여야 했던 몽골인들에게 영웅이란 삶의 지표였다고 볼 수 있다. 몽골 설화에 다른 주제보다 영웅이야기가 당연히 많을 수밖에 없었다. 내몽골지역에서 전승된 대표적인 영웅이야기는 귀족적 영웅이 야기와 민중적 영웅이야기가 모두 분포되어 있다. 그런데 귀족적 영웅이야기보 다는 민중적 영웅이야기가 많다는 점이 주목 된다. 이는 설화가 구비전승되는 과정 속에서 신성성이 약화되었기 때문이라고 볼 수 있고 중국화가 진행된 내 몽골이라는 지역성과 현재성이 반영된 결과라고 볼 수 있다. 민중적 영웅이야기들은 빠린의 씨름꾼 과 사냥꾼 카이리프 등과 같이 한 국의 아기장수 설화나 우투리 설화처럼 뜻을 펴지 못하고 패배를 하는 기 본형도 있지만, 호왕의(虎王衣) 와 우란빠투얼의 옛이야기 처럼 미천한 신분의 주인공들이 자 신의 탁월한 능력을 통하여 자신의 뜻을 관철시키고 성공하는 변이형도 많다는 점을 확인할 수 있었다. 이러한 변이형 민중적 영웅이야기는 계층 간의 갈등을 전면에 내세우며 민중적 영웅이 승리하는 구조로 짜여 있는 데 사적 유물론적인 시각이 개입된 것으로 추정할 수 있었다. 그런데 변이형 민중적 영웅이야기모두가 계층 간의 갈등을 초점화하는 것이 아니고 보물열쇠 나 용감한 치커라커 처럼 설화의 일반적인 갈등을 가지고 있는 민중적 영웅 이야기도 있다.
