This study examine which factors affect on the business performance of R&D of small and medium manufacturing firms. We use the technology capacity factors & technology attribute factors as independent variables and external circumstance factors and firm capacity factors as control variables. Also success or fail of R&D, finance performance, employer satisfaction performance and customer performance used as dependent variables. The main results are as follows. First, technology capacity factors and new technology affect significant influence on business performance of R&D, but technology attribute factors do not. Second, on the contrary to existing researches, external circumstance factors do not affect significant influence on business performance of R&D. Finally, firm capacity factors affect affirmatively on business performance of R&D and the most important factors of business performance of R&D are marketing and CEO capacity.

본 연구는 중소제조기업을 중심으로 기술개발의 사업화 성과에 관한 실증분석을 수행하였다. 총 196개 중소제조기업의 기술개발담당자들을 대상으로 과거 기술개발의 성과에 어떠한 요인들이 영향을 미쳤는가를 설문지를 이용하여 분석하였다. 독립변수로는 기술개발역량과 기술속성요인을 사용하였고 통제변수로는 외부환경요인과 기업역량요인을 이용하였으며, 사업화성과변수로는 기술개발 성공여부, 신제품개발여부, 재무성과, 종업원성과, 고객성과가 이용되었다. 분석결과 기술개발역량과 신기술은 전체적으로 사업화 성과에 유의한 양의 영향을 미쳤으나, 기술의 차별성과 확장성 같은 기술속성요인은 성과에 유의한 영향을 미치지 못했다. 특이한 점은 기존의 연구결과와 달리 외부환경요인은 전체적으로 사업화 성과에 유의한 영향을 미치지 못했다는 점이다. 한편 기업역량요인이 전체적으로 사업화 성과에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며, 마케팅역량과 CEO역량이 가장 큰 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다.
