Visual materials in Olympic is historical record has eternal value. Especially, Emblem or Poster has huge meaning because, it symbolizes host country's history and tradition, time and society, culture and art. Olympic is the festival what all world culture meets in one place as well as the game. In that reason, it can be a good opportunity and effective advertising means that can show their own culture and the city image of hold country. Therefore, this study was analyzed to set a limit the country held the Olympic over the second time. And Emblem image was looked at fall into two categories: symbolic elements and formative elements. As a result, before 2000, Emblem image was used for the Poster. But, after 2000, Emblem and Poster has different expression method. It could visualize the unique host country's aesthetic value. In other word, advertising method is changing to express each country's symbolic elements in multi-dimensional sight and to reflect current image. In this study, the study about visual feature of the winter Olympic, will be expected to be a basic data for making the Olympic's visual materials or setting the direction.

올림픽에서 시각적 자료는 영원한 가치를 지니는 역사적 기록물이다. 특히 엠블럼이나 포스터는 올림픽 개최국의 역사와 전통, 시대와 사회, 문화, 예술을 상징하기 때문에 그 의미가 크다. 올림픽 대회는 경기뿐만 아니라 세계의 문화가 한자리에 모이는 축제이다. 이에 개최국은 전 세계에 문화와 도시이미지를 제고할 수 있는 좋은 기회이며 엠블럼이나 포스터는 효과적인 홍보수단이 된다. 따라서 본 연구는 동계올림픽을 2번 이상 개최한 국가로 한정하여 분석하였다. 엠블럼의 이미지를 상징요소와 조형요소를 유형별로 구분하여 살펴보았다. 그리고 엠블럼의 이미지가 포스터에 어떻게 적용되는지 알아보았다. 그 결과 국가별 엠블럼을 활용한 포스터 이미지의 제작은 미국이 가장 많이 활용하고 있었다. 시대별로 살펴보면 2000년 이전에는 엠블럼 이미지를 포스터에 많이 활용하고 있었지만, 2000년 이후의 엠블럼과 포스터는 표현방식을 달리하여 개최국만의 독특한 미적 가치를 시각화하고 있었다. 즉 각국마다 상징할 수 있는 요소들을 다각적인 관점에서 표현하고 현재의 이미지를 반영하는 기법으로 변화하고 있었다. 이에 본 연구의 동계올림픽의 시각적 특징에 관한 탐구는 향후 올림픽 시각자료를 만들거나 방향을 설정하는데 기초자료가 될 것으로 기대한다.
