Giorgio Sant’ Angelo was known for clothing design using stretch fabrics and particularly for creating multi-functional clothing, including bodysuits. The study aimed to analyze the styles of his bodysuits from the 1960’s to the 80’s and examine their multi-functional features. Bodysuit samples kept in the Archive Center of Parsons The New School for Design and articles as well as photographs in fashion news papers and magazines were analyzed. First, 49 bodysuit samples were categorized by style. 29 were comfortable, casual looks, while 20 were sexy outfits. Most of the casual bodysuits used functional materials such as Lycra, spandex and knit, and had low hem lines, which made it easy and free for wearers. For the sexy look bodysuits, in general, much exposure and see-through elements were observed, mostly made of thin and transparent stretch materials such as mesh, lace, gauze, jersey and lurex. The most distinguished feature of his bodysuits was flexible design so that a wearer could wear it differently depending on the occasion. These features were observed both in casual and sexy looks. One of the ways to complete the multi-functionality was wrapping. Sant’ Angelo created extra material by extending the fabric pieces or by inserting a long cloth into the side seam, like a wing. When it comes to wearing the clothes, many of the bodysuits were found to be multi-purpose depending on how a bodysuit would be wrapped around body. Another way to complete the multi-functionality was layering. By combining the bodysuit with other items, Sant’ Angelo offered various changes in styling, so the wearer could be greatly satisfied with different images for different occasions.

T-셔츠 스타일은 T-셔츠에 팬티가 연결된 모양으로서, 거의 라운드 또는 터틀 네크라인에 지퍼를 단 것도 있었다. 셔츠 스타일은 대부분 셔츠칼라에 커프스가 달린 형태에 앞 중심에 지퍼가 달렸다. 이상, 캐주얼 룩 바디수트는 대부분 밑단선이 낮게 내려와 힙에 여유를 줌으로써 활동을 자유롭게 한 것이 특징이었고, 주로 라이크라, 스판덱스, 니트 등 실용적인 소재를 많이 사용하였다. 섹시 룩 바디수트는 주로 노출과 투시 효과로써 표출되었는데, 노출 효과는 깊게 파인 힙 노출과 가슴 노출, 끈 없는 디자인에 의한 어깨 노출, 윙(wing)처럼 연장된 천을 몸에 두르면서 가슴과 등이 노출된 것이 보였다. 투시효과는 대부분 스트레치 시스루 소재에 의해 이루어졌고, 따라서 주로 스트레치 메쉬, 레이스, 거즈, 저지, 루렉스 등 얇고 투명하게 비치는 소재를 많이 사용하여 노출과 투시 효과를 동시에 내도록 디자인되어 있었다. 샌 엔젤로 바디수트의 가장 두드러진 점은 하나의 바디수트로 여러 다른 목적에 따라 다양하게 착용할 수 있는 다기능적 특징을 지닌 것이다. 이러한 다기능성의 특징은 랩핑(wrapping)과 레이어링(layering)에 의해 완성되었다. 랩핑은 몸판, 목, 어깨 등에서 연장된 천을 몸에 감거나 또는 옆 솔기선에 윙처럼 긴 천을 삽입하여 몸에 두르거나 감아 입음으로써 변형 스타일이 가능하도록 한 것이다. 레이어링은 바디수트를 다른 아이템과 함께 착용함으로써 완전히 다른 착장 기능을 완성시킨 방법이다. 이러한 다기능적 특성은 캐주얼 룩과 섹시 룩 바디수트에서 모두 나타났다.
