This study analyzes four types of styles that represent postmodernism, a turning point in the late 20th century that has been frequently discussed in the modern fashion world - street look, feminine look, retro look, and ethnic look – to learn the formative characteristics shown in knitted clothing since 2010. The objective is to improve the quality of knitted clothing in the future. First, street look developed from subcultures. Here, knitted clothing is practical and futuristic, and uses soft pastel colors and achromatic colors with primary colors. Second, the retro look mainly focuses on combining past and present and delivering emotional concepts such as memory and reminiscence. Knitted clothing in this category includes the mix of casual and vintage, retro patterns and bohemian style. Different shades of colors that look faded are used to express these concepts. Third, the ethnic look that is based on naturalism is interested in aboriginality and human instinct, and uses strong colors and unique arrangements of colors to express active and primitive feelings. Lastly, the feminine look is a style that can maximize the flexibility of knitted clothing. It is functional, metaphorical, and sensual. Knits with drapes emphasize body curves and use one color, stripes, or patterns.

본 연구는 현대 패션에서 빈번하게 논의되어 온 20세기 후반 패션의 전환기인 포스트모더니즘을 대표하는 네 가지 특성 스트리트 룩, 페미니즘 룩, 레트로 룩, 에스닉 룩을 중심으로 2010년 이후 니트 패션에 나타난 조형적 특징을 분석함으로써 니트 패션의 질적인 향상을 도모하는데 목적이 있다. 첫째, 스트리트 룩은 하위문화스타일에서 발전된 룩으로 실용성을 강조한 미래적인 니트 패션으로 제시되며, 부드러운 파스텔 색상과 무채색과 원색과의 액센트 배색이 두드러졌다. 둘째, 레트로 룩은 과거의 현존을 보여주는 혼합방식과 추억과 회상이라는 감성의 전달이 주된 목적으로 자유로운 캐주얼과 빈티지 스타일의 믹스, 융합, 복고적인 패턴의 보헤미안스타일로 다소 빛바랜 듯한 톤의 다양한 색상으로 표현되었다. 셋째, 자연주의를 바탕으로 한 수공예 감각의 에스닉 룩은 원시성이나 인간본능에 대한 관심을 내포하고, 색상은 강하고 자극적인 배색으로 활기차고 원시적인 느낌을 표현하였다. 마지막으로 페미니즘 룩은 니트 패션의 유연성을 극대화 시킬 수 있는 특성으로 기능적이면서 은유적이고, 관능적이다. 이는 곡선미가 드러나는 드레이프성의 니트 패션으로 단색 위주와 스프라이트, 다양한 패턴 등으로 표현되었다. 니트 패션의 특성과 분석에 대한 지속적인 연구가 진행된다면 새로운 포스트모더니즘의 개념으로서 사회·문화적 배경의 시대성과 문화를 이해하고 그에 따른 기능적이며, 실용적인 니트 패션의 발전을 도모 할 수 있다고 생각한다. 이는 꾸준한 성장과 기능성, 예술성을 갖춘 하나의 장르로서 니트 패션의 시지각적인 자료로서 산업 전반에 걸쳐 중요한 의의를 갖는다고 할 수 있다.
