The research on 'choking' in sports started from Baumeister's paper published in 1984 on Journal of Personality & Social Psychology. This study is for reviewing and expecting about choking research. There have been several research conducted about choking in sports situation in 2000s and issued many papers on the journals around 2010 on the abroad. But there is only one paper about choking issued in Korea. But there are several problems in choking research. First, it has limit in the real-world choking whereas the meaning of choking defined by Baumeister is very useful in the experimental situation. Second, there are not enough investigation on the choking mechanism, that is, Distraction hypothesis and Explicit Monitoring hypothesis. Third, there's little study about choking in Korea, so it is very difficult to research choking situation of Korean athletes. Therefore, we suggest that through researching about choking in the varied skill-levels and in the variety of fields of sports, it is need to get over the limitation of the definition of choking by Baumeister. It is also suggested that to conduct research about various aspects of choking in various fields of sports situation. Moreover, it is recommended to find the way of alleviating choking in sports situation considering individual traits. Finally, it is needed to conduct research about choking of Korean athletes and in Korean sports situation to find more proper way to alleviating choking.
