The ultimate purpose of this study is to prevent any injury in advance and to improve athletic performance by identifying injuries that may occur to rowing crews during competition and training. In order to achieve this goal, the study collected samples from a total of 236 rowing crews consisting of 133 males and 103 females in high schools and colleges and among the general public who were registered as athletes at the Korea Rowing Association. Then, the study collected data using questionnaires that were composed of questions about the injured area by athletic injury, period of athletic injury, movements causing and body area of athletic injury, causes of athletic injury, and first aid treatment and current treatment for the injury. Except for data with low reliability, the study analyzed the data collected by employing the frequency and percentile of the IBM SPSS 19.0 statistical program. Based on the above, the subsequent results may be summarized as follows. Rowing crews experience many injuries around the waist and knees, and it is necessary to perform stretching and reinforcement for the waist and knees systematically in order to improve athletic performance. In other words, for the prevention of injury, it is necessary for trainers and athletes to make an effort to do sufficient warm-up exercises, and especially to realize accurate movements for rowing and weight technique compared with normal times during the main exercise time and training in cold weather. In particular, in order to prevent injury to the waist and knees, it is necessary for rowers to conduct training after confirming the appropriate weight for themselves during squat training. In detail, it is desirable for male athletes to reproduce accurate movements during dead lift training and for female athletes to do so during power clean training. Furthermore, they are advised to gradually increase training intensity by selecting training weights suitable for each person. Also, trainers should offer sufficient break time and an environment for preventing injury to athletes, and approach athletes from a scientific perspective in accordance with the physical characteristics of each individual when determining the intensity and amount of training.
