The purpose of this paper is to explore the oral history that is a branch of qualitative research in the Elementary Pedagogy. This paper is to centered on theoretical foundations and the actual research method of the oral history as the Elementary Pedagogy. The oral history is interested in hidden story that is buried in the system, events, or acts of a particular person. And oral history is interested in the people from the center outwards in the study of the history and hidden story in revealed history. The oral history is a field of a qualitative research that reveal the hidden story behind in history by interpreting the meaning so that enables democratic historiography. This study is discussed the significance of oral history in terms of discovery of new facts or meaning and movement of perspectives or expanding of width for the Elementary Pedagogical researches. Priority, the oral historian as Elementary Pedagogical researcher and the narrator should be shared the authority of the research. And next, we should make a renewed effort to explore and apply the oral historical research method in various fields of the Elementary Pedagogical research. Finally, the reason of the Oral History Research should be remembered that the basic facts of change and reform in elementary education.

이 글은 질적 연구의 한 분야인 구술사를 초등교육학 연구에 적용하기 위해 이론적 기초와 실제 연구 방법을 탐색하는 데 목적이 있다. 질적 연구방법론 중의 하나인 구술사는 특정한 인물의 행적이나 사건, 제도에 매몰되어있는 기존의 역사 연구에서 중심 바깥쪽에 있는 사람 들, 그리고 밖으로 드러나 있는 역사 속에 숨겨진 이야기들에 관심을 갖는다. 구술사는 역사 속에 숨은 비하인드 스토리를 밝히고 그것이 갖고 있는 의미를 해석함으로써 민주적인 역사 서술을 가능하게 하는 질적 연구 방법의 한 분야이다. 이 연구는 초등교육 연구방법으로서의 구술사의 의의를 초등교육 역사속의 새로운 사실이 나 의미 발견, 초등교육학 연구 관점의 이동, 초등교육학 연구의 폭 확대 등의 관점에서 논의 하였다. 초등교육학에서의 구술사 연구는 구술자와 연구자가 함께 공유하는 연구가 되어야 하며 지금까지 교육사를 만들어왔던 평범한 사람들의 역사와 쓰는 사람들의 역사 간의 간극 을 줄이고 극복할 수 있는 해법을 제시해줄 수 있어야 한다. 또한 초등교육학 연구의 다양한 분야에서 구술사 연구 방법을 새롭게 적용하고 탐구하려는 노력이 있어야 하며 구술사 연구 의 이유가 초등교육의 변화와 개혁에 있다는 기본적인 사실을 기억해야 한다.
