The purpose of this study was to understand about the qualitative case study and to explore how can be applied qualitative case study to primary education. To study primary education is need to describe practical aspects of primary education and to find 'right words' which are appropriate for realistic picture of primary education. Qualitative case study is to understand, review, analyze and interpret one of the case, and to understand its whole image within important circumstances and contexts. So when researchers study about primary education, they can use qualitative case study. Researchers can describe the actual atmosphere of primary education and find the concepts which be associated with the actual appearance of elementary education through a qualitative case study. When applying qualitative case study into the field of primary education, the researchers can study about the people, policies, programs, concepts and actions of primary education. Depending on the type of research, researchers can proceed descriptive case study, interpretive case study and evaluative case study.

본 연구는 질적 사례연구에 대해 이해하고, 초등교육을 연구하는데 있어서 질적 사례연구를 어떻게 적용할 수 있는지 탐구하는 것에 목적이 있다. 초등교육을 연구하는데 있어서는 현장 의 생생한 목소리와 초등교육이 실제로 벌어지는 그것에 알맞은 이름 찾기가 필요하며, 이는 하나의 사례를 생생하고 온전하게 묘사하며, 묘사한 사례와 개념을 연결시킬 수 있는 질적 사례연구를 통해 구현될 수 있다. 질적 사례연구는 하나의 사례를 심층적으로 이해하고 검토 하고 분석하고 해석하는 것으로, 이 과정 중에서 사례와 관련된 맥락들과 중요한 요소 등을 파악하여 사례에 대한 총체적인 이해를 가능하게 한다. 따라서 초등교육을 연구하는데 있어 서 연구자는 질적 사례연구를 통해 초등교육의 현장을 그대로 묘사할 수도 있으며, 초등교육 의 현장을 어떠한 개념으로 규명할 수도 있다. 질적 사례연구를 통해 초등교육을 연구할 때 연구자는 사람, 정책, 프로그램, 개념, 행위 등을 연구대상으로 삼을 수 있으며, 질적 사례연구 유형에 따라 연구를 진행할 수도 있다. 질적 사 례연구 유형에 따라 연구를 진행할 경우, 연구자는 어떠한 사례를 풍부하고 상세하게 설명하 는 서술적(descriptive) 사례연구, 풍부한 서술과 함께 이론적 가정에 의한 분석의 단계를 포함 시키는 해석적(interpretive) 사례연구, 서술, 설명, 판단을 모두 포함하여 어떤 것을 평가하는 평가적(evaluative) 사례연구로 진행할 수 있다.
