This article is about the configuration of youth in Korean films with focusing on films in early 1960’s. The motive of the study was lack of discussions of texts about the April 19 Revolution and young generations at that time using films unlike domain of literature. A series of films called youth film were produced after 1963 but in very early 1960’s, family-themed films were usually made. And youth reflected in these family-themed movies seemed to be related to the discourses on youth was dominant at that time. Based on this, the discourses on youth in early 1960’s from the April 19 Revolution to the May 16 Coup d'etat were reviewed through various magazines from at that time and then it was analyzed how the configuration of youth with this generational perspective appeared in the family-themed through representation of the youth. Specifically, about formation of youth discourse with the April 19 Revolution, the social atmosphere of the discourses reflected older generation’s anxiety and distrust on younger ones after the Revolution was mentioned. And the youth discourse that young generations were otherized as the objects of watch and control with perspective of the generation theory. From this, it turned out that the technology of the self for youth was derived from the discourses. For the configuration of youth represented in films, some family-themed movies made in early 1960’s were selected in order to analyze the youth in those films as an index of safe society managing anxieties against them. This configuration of youth emphasized the political view of family-themed films and showed that the discourses on youth at that time were accepted cinematically. However, this configuration of youth was modified as generations who express emotion and romanticism privately with influences of the May 16 Coup d'etat and the subsequent social rigidification.

이 논문은 1960년대 초반 영화를 분석 대상으로 하여 영화에 반영된 청년의 형상에 대해 논의한 글이다. 문학의 영역과는 달리 영화에서 4․19와 청년 세대에 대해 영화 텍스트를 대상으로 집중적인 논의를 충분하게 하지 못한 점이 영화 분석의 동기가 되었다. 이른바 청춘 영화라고 불리는 일련의 영화들이 많이 제작되던 1963년 이후와는 달리 1960년대 초반에는 주로 가족 영화가 많이 만들어졌다. 그리고 이 가족 영화에 반영된 청년의 모습은 당시 사회적으로 많이 제출되던 청년 담론과 일정 정도 관계를 맺고 있다고 판단했다. 이 점에 착안하여 4․19혁명과 5․16쿠데타를 거치는 1960년대 초반의 청년 담론을 여러 잡지의 글을 통해 알아보고 이러한 세대적 관점을 내장한 청년의 형상이 가족 영화에서 청년의 재현 양상을 통해 어떤 식으로 드러나는지를 분석했다. 구체적으로 4․19혁명과 청년 담론의 형성 부분에서는 4․19 이후 청년 세대에 대한 기성세대들의 불안과 불신을 반영한 담론들이 제출된 상황을 언급했다. 이들을 관리와 단속의 대상으로 타자화하던 당시의 청년 담론을 세대론적 관점에서 다뤘다. 여기서 알 수 있는 것은 청년들의 자아 테크놀로지의 생산이 담론으로부터 도출된다는 점이다. 그리고 영화에 재현된 청년의 형상 부분에서는 1960년대 초반 가족 영화를 몇 편 선정하여 이 영화에 재현된 청년들이 자신들의 불안을 다스리고 안전 사회의 지표로서 형상화된다는 점을 분석했다. 이러한 청년 형상은 가족 영화가 지니는 정치성을 강조하며 세대론적 관점에서 당대의 청년 담론이 영화적으로 수용되는 양상을 보여 준다. 그러나 이러한 청년 세대의 형상은 5․16군사 쿠데타와 사회 경직성의 심화로 인해 단순히 감상과 낭만화를 사적으로 표출하는 청춘의 모습으로 일정 정도 변화되어 나갔다.
