This study investigates the recent trend of research on ELT materials through meta-analysis of the research papers included in five major ELT-related academic journals published during the past six years (2007-2012) in Korea. For this purpose, 104 research papers were chosen to be analyzed, which were closely related to ELT materials and methods. The findings are that ELT materials-related research has been continuously carried out by ELT professionals over the six years, though the ratio of the ELT materials-related papers which have been published in the major journals is not very high. Both on-line and off-line materials have been researched quite vigorously. Of all, papers on printed materials and textbooks have been most frequently published. Among computer-related research topics, blogs and SNS are most frequently favored. Various Smartphone apps have also been frequently researched. Interestingly, papers on motion pictures including movies and YouTube videos have hardly been found. Concerning English skills, research on reading skills which combine on- and off-line materials are strongly desired. More suggestions and implications for future research on ELT materials have also been made.

본 연구에서는 최근 6년간(2007~2012) 우리나라의 주요 영어교육 유관 학회지에 게재된 연구논문을 대상으로 실시한 메타분석을 통하여 최근 영어교재 연구의 추세를 분석하였다. 본 연구 결과에 의하면 교재 분야는 지속적인 관심을 받고 있기는 하나 좀 더 활발한 연구 및 논문 게재 노력이 요구되었다. 오프라인 매체와 더불어 온라인 매체 연구도 지속적으로 진행된 것으로 나타났는데, 그 중 프린트 교재 연구가 압도적인 비율을 차지하였고, 그 다음으로 인터넷, 모바일, 사이버가정학습, 소프트웨어, 동영상의 순으로 나타났다. 좀 더 활발한 동영상 연구가 요구되었고, 프린트 교재와 멀티미디어를 효과적으로 접목하는 연구, 소프트웨어 관련 연구, 중등학교를 대상으로 한 스마트폰이나 컴퓨터 활용 연구, 그리고 다양한 온·오프라인 매체를 읽기에 접목하는 연구의 활성화가 요구되었다.
