The purposes of this study are to analyze pathological meaning of body in 1950's novel of Son, Chang Sub and investigate its coexistence awareness. Until now, disabled body of Son, Chang Sub's novel has been cognized as a sign showing gloomy actualities after the war. The grotesque body in his novel is actually showing the atmosphere of dismal death, but it's difficult to interpret it as just uneasiness, futile awareness, etc. after the war because focused speaker doesn't have pathological body and feel coexistence awareness through the damaged characters around him in the novel of Son, Chang Sub. Finally, his novel contains not only 'body' experiencing cruel period directly but also humane 'sight' seeing the damaged body. And, those pathological characters implies an important of survival through the mutual existence.

이 연구는 1950년대 손창섭의 소설에 나타난 훼손된 몸의 의미를 분석하고, 여기에 내재되 어 있는 공존의식을 규명하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 지금까지 손창섭 소설의 불구적인 몸은 전 후 암울한 현실 인식을 드러내는 기호로 인식되었다. 그의 소설에 나타난 그로테스크한 육체 는 음산한 죽음의 분위기를 발산하는 것이 사실이지만, 이를 전후의 불안 및 허무의식 등으로 만 해설하기는 어렵다. 손창섭의 소설에서 초점화자의 경우 병리적 신체를 가지고 있지 않으 며, 이들은 주변의 상처 받은 인물을 통해 공존의식을 느끼고 있기 때문이다. 결국 그의 소설 에서는 참혹한 시대를 몸소 체험하고 있는 ‘육체’뿐만 아니라 그 훼손된 육체를 바라보는 인간 적인 ‘시선’이 내재되어 있다. 그리고 이러한 병리적 인물들은 서로의 존재를 통해 생존의 중 요성을 시사하고 있다.
