Preachers used to face the pressing temptation to deliver their own message other than that of the Scriptures such as political issue, ethical demand, economical abundance, and etc. However, if they fail to preach the Scriptures, they also fail to deliver God’s message to their hearer. In addition, when they do it, they abandon their authority as a preacher. Expository preaching is the communication of a biblical concept, derived from and transmitted through a historical, grammatical, and literary study of a passage in its context, which the Holy Spirit first applies to the personality and experience of the preacher, then through the preacher, applies to the hearers. Now Korean preachers are struggle to preach God’s message which is delivered in the Scriptures. It is hard to deny that Expository preaching is contributing to many Korean church's pulpits in terms of concentrating on God's Word. However, the history of expository preaching in Korea is not long. Thus, Korean preachers who pursue expository preaching need more study on it. In fact, there are some misunderstanding of it. Even this article is just a short one, it is written to clarify the nature of expository preaching, challenging Korean preacher’s established understanding of it.

설교자들은 종종 성경본문이 전하는 메시지가 아닌 그들 스스로 고민하는 문제들 즉 정치적인 이슈들이나 윤리적인 행동의 촉구, 혹은 경제적인 풍요등과 같은 주제들을 전하고 싶은 유혹이 빠지곤 한다. 그러나 만약 설교자들이 성경본문이 전하는 메시지를 설교하는데 실패한다면, 그들은 그들의 청중에게 하나님의 말씀을 전하는데 실패하게 될 것이다. 또한 그들이 하나님의 말씀을 전하는데 실패했을 때 결극 그들은 그들이 가진 설교자로서의 권위를 상실하게 될 것이다. 강해설교는 설교자가 전하고자 하는 성경 본문의 배경과 관련하여, 역사적이고 문법적으로, 그리고 문자적이고 신학적으로 그 본문을 연구하여 알아낸 성경의 중심개념을 우선 설교자의 인격과 경험에 적용하고, 또한 설교자를 통하여 다시 회중에게 적용하는 신학을 가진 설교이다. 현재 한국의 설교자들은 설교본문으로써의 성서가 전하고 있는 하나님의 말씀을 설교하고자 부단히 씨름하고 있다. 아마 강해설교는 많은 한국교회의 강단에서 하나님의 말씀에 집중하도록 하는데 기여를 하고 있다. 그러나 사실 한국에서 강해설교의 역사는 그렇게 길지 않다. 따라서 강해설교를 하고자 노력하는 한국의 설교자들은 강해설교에 대해 더 공부해야할 필요가 있다. 실제적으로, 그들에게는 강해설교에 대한 오해가 있는 것도 사실이다. 이 논문은 그렇게 길지 않은 논문이다. 그럼에도 불구하고 이 논문에서 한국 설교자들이 이미 가지고 있는 강해설교에 대한 생각에 도전을 주며 강해설교의 본질이 무엇인가 하는 것을 탐구하고자 한다.
