The main ginsenosides are glycosides that contain an aglycone with a dammarane skeleton, and include protopanaxadiol-type saponins such as ginsenosides Rb1, Rb2, Rc, and Rd, as well as protopanaxatriol-type saponins such as ginsenosides Re and Rg1, constituting more than 80% of the total ginsenosides. These ginsenosides are an important class of physiologically active compounds that are found in many herbs, which possess anti-inflammatory activity and antitumor activity such as the inhibition of tumor-induced angiogenesis and the prevention of tumor invasion and metastasis. In this study, ginsenosides in various methanolic extracts of red ginseng marc were measured. The results determined that the amount of ginsenosides in methanolic extract of red ginseng marc was increased at methanolic dependent manner. Especially, 90% methanolic extract was indicated the highest total content of ginsenosides as compared to the control (water extract). A great amount of PPD gisenosides were detected as Rb1 and Rg3 and PPT ginsenosides, Rg1, Re, and Rf.: This research was supported by Basic Science Research Program through the National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF) funded by the Ministry of Knowledge Economy (MKE-R0002038).
