Alkali Pretreatment with Miscanthus Biomass for Bioethanol Production

Miscanthus is one of best bioenergy crop for second generation bioethanol production. Recently, we are developing suitable pretreatments method with miscanthus biomass for bioethanol production. In this study, we added CO2 into alkali-treated miscanthus biomass mixture for the effective conversion method and used high temperature and high pressure reactor system with cyclone receiver. The sample was pretreated with 0.1% calcium hydroxide solution at 150℃ for 30 minutes. Consequently, we could obtain 84% solid remaining from total biomass containing 44.6% of cellulose, 23.4% of hemicellulose, 25.1% of lignin and 1.4% of ash.
