Efficiency Study of Essential Oil from Chamaecyparis obtusa with Surfactant

초록

영어

We studied the chemical properties, heavy metal contents, antioxidants and antimicrobial activities of essential oils with surfactant that Chamaecyparis obtusa is a species of cypress native to central Japan, which is commonly known as content of the phytoncide. C. obtusa essential oil is a concentrated hydrophobic liquid. Essential oils are also known to be immiscible because of the interfacial with water. So we founded optimal emulsification conditions according to the hydrophilic and hydrophobic conditions. The processing liquid product of C. obtusa essential oil (PB-005) showed good solubility and stable emulsion state. The antimicrobial assay by agar disc diffusion method showed that PB-005 inhibited effectively the growth of E. coli, S. aureus and P. aeruginosa, equivalent to the 1% grapefruit seed extract (DF-100, positive control). The antioxidant effect of PB-005 was evaluated by using DPPH scavenging activity. And five heavy metal contents were measured using an ICP-OES. The chemical composition of PB-005 was analyzed by GC-MS. Therefore, it is suggested that PB-005 can be developed as a natural disinfectant.
