Development of a Lipase Reporter System for the Engineering of Clostridium beijerinckii

Microbial solvent production using Clostridium beijerinckii strains is in the spotlight for their outstanding ability to produce solvents, such as acetone, butanol, and ethanol known as ABE fermentation. There have been many efforts to make these strains produce sufficient amount of solvents, however this bioprocess is still far from being commercialized. Nevertheless, metabolic engineering of these microbial strains is still one of the most promising strategies for strain improvement. In this study, we have tried to develop a novel and effective foreign gene expressing vector system for C. beijerinckii. Several expression vectors with different gene promoters bearing a lipase gene as a reporter were constructed and investigated. The detailed results will be presented in this presentation.
