The purpose of this study is to discuss limitations and problems of Reid Technique and to introduce new interrogation methods. Based on a number of empirical research studies, problems of Behavioral Analysis Interview and maximization and minimization techniques were discussed and the relationships of Reid Technique, false confessions, and wrongful convictions were also examined. Some lie detection techniques or interrogation techniques, such as strategic disclosure of evidence, increasing cognitive loads of interviewees and suspects, and PEACE model were proven to use psychologically non-coercive tactics. Implications of use of interrogation techniques and some recommendations to criminal justice systems were provided.

본 연구는 심리학적 연구 결과들을 바탕으로 피의자 신문 기법인 리드 기법에 대한 한계점 및 문제점들에 대해 논의하고 새로운 신문 기법들에 대해 소개하는 것이 목적이다. 실증적 연구 결과들을 바탕으로 리드 기법에서 사용하는 행동분석 면담과 최소화 및 최대화 기법, 그리고 유죄 심증 형성의 문제점에 대해 논의하고 리드 기법과 허위 자백, 그리고 오판과의 관계에 대하여 논의하였다. 실증적 연구를 통해 비압력적인 신문 방법이라고 알려져 있는 전략적 증거 공개 방법, 용의자의 인지적 부담 증가시키기, 예상하지 못한 질문하기, 그리고 PEACE 기법에 대해 논의하였다. 마지막으로 피의자 신문 기법에 대한 개선방안을 제시하고자 하였다.
