The current research seeks to identify what is important to mothers with infants and toddlers when choosing a daycare center. It also seeks to provide preliminary data for childcare service which reflect the mother’s needs. To that end, a survey was conducted with 212 parents who have infants and toddlers in Seoul and Kyunggi-Do. Data were analyzed using the SPSS 15.0 Win program. The results showed that there was a significant statistical difference according to mother’s background. By use of a survey, daycare centers have to make preparations to improve quality.

본 연구는 영아기 자녀를 둔 어머니의 배경변인에 따라 어린이집을 선택할 때 중요하게 고려하는 점에 차이가 있는지를 알아봄으로써 수요자의 요구를 반영한 영아보육 서비스가 제공될 수 있도록 기초자료를 제공하기 위해 실시되었다. 조사 대상은 만 0세~2세 영아를 자녀로 둔 어머니 212명으로 서울과 경기 지역의 보육정보센터를 통해 설문지를 배부 및 회수하였고, SPSS 15.0 통계 프로그램으로 자료처리를 하였다. 그 결과 통계적으로 유의미한 차이가 나타난 항목을 살펴보면, 시설 결정 시 미이용부모가 이용학부모에 비해 더 중요하게 여긴 것은 ‘보육프로그램’이었고, 미취업모가 취업모보다 중요하게 인식한 것은 ‘보육정책’이었다. 이러한 결과를 토대로 영아 대상 어린이집이 갖추어야 할 질적 수준에 대한 논의가 이루어졌다.
