This study aims to examine the semantic correspondence of synonymic words from the aspect of contextualism and thereby investigate how multiple meanings consist of synonymy. Since a word is polysemic, the most crucial part in research on synonyms is to figure out the difference. This difference can be understood by examining how the two words are used with other words. At this point, Corpus analysis on the use of relative meanings is useful in that it allows us to decide to what extent the two words in synonymy can be exchanged quantitatively by showing the difference of their combinations and also figure out their semantic distribution according to their use. This study compared the two words’ polysemic aspects in order to understand their synonymy and discovered synonymy composed of a part of their multiple meanings. Also, it examined the aspects of synonymy by studying the context where they are actually used. Based on that, this paper could examine the synonymic construction and aspects of use which the multiple meanings get to form.
