The distinctiveness of Goryeo Diaspora literature requires attention in terms of literary history. Goryeo literature has a feature to give shape to space, social background and eventually its works. Kim Se-il, as a Goryeo representative writer, had steadily written poem and novel. As his works grasped the entire flow of Goryeo’s migration history, it is seemed that they made a great contribution to the development of Goryeo literature. It is a feature that Kim Se-il’s Hongbeomdo took empirical description method. It reveals other fictional characters except Hongbeomdo but the clear situational awareness of its current circumstances is well implied in the works. It also shows the macro perspective of influence which anti-Japanese armed struggle had made on whole society. This article is intended to capture the development aspect of historical novel appeared in ｢Hongbeomdo｣ and the narrative of the anti-Japanese struggle as well as comtemporary meaning which his work encompassed. I’d like to research the historical data of Hongbeomdo as well as his work by considering its social and historical context Goryeo was facing with. The Goryeo migrants grieved over the loss of their hometown and expressed the depth of their sorrow and loss of consciousness through the Goryeo literature. At this point, it showed the gloom of the era and it revealed their historical consciousness. We can see that Goryeo people recognized the desolation and desperate reality for their forced relocation. Also it exposed its residential space on the front and showed its ‘source’ problem for loss coming from the grief which they didn’t have their own settlement. As we examine Hongbeomdo appeared in Goryeo literature, he is showing a character who gets rid of the hardship and opens the world with his new power. We can see this as the emergence of human with belief who succeeded in self-conquest. It means the emergence of the heroic figure of the people who sacrificed himself for the new world. Because ｢Hongbeomdo｣ is progressed in the center of the anti-Japanese armed struggle, the ethical problem sometimes may appear. It is exposed in disregard of life appeared in the battle. The anti-Japanese armed struggle can be a way to defend human dignity and subjecthood but the contempt for life in battle is seemed to involve in the ethical conflicts. ｢Hongbeomdo｣ is forming the new values of people, not escaping the reality within the ethical conflicts. The source of conflicts shows its gloom of existence and alienation. It also reveals that current life is in the critical situation. But this conflict can be seen to face up the contradictions of reality and accept the sorrow for alien life and situation. ｢Hongbeomdo｣ has consistently expressed the uneasy inner consciousness in the work through Hongbeomdo who lived passionate life. Ethical conflicts which arised in the work can be seen as the expression of nihilism and the absence of positive social person. It seems that Kim se-il deeply recognized the nature to break the deformed reality through the figure, Hongbeomdo. However, understanding the conflict as populist perspective without resolving the conflict with heroism can be the limitation of this work. Kim Se-il is actively facing up the history which people are struggling and winning against the oppression of Japan with the life living in the central Asia due to the repression of the Soviet Union. This is representing the problems of national identity within the work, and thus it can be seen as the Goryeo people’s understanding of history.

고려인 디아스포라 문학의 특수성은 문학사적 측면에서 주목을 요하고 있다. 고려인문학은 공간과 사회적 배경을 구체화 시키고 작품을 주체화 하고 있다는 특징을 가진다. 김세일은 고려인 대표작가로서 시와 소설에서 꾸준한 작품 활동을 진 행하였다. 고려인 이주의 역사 흐름을 전체적으로 파악한 가운데 창작된 그의 작품은 고려인문학 발전에 기여를 했다고 볼 수 있다. 김세일의 ｢홍범도｣는 실증적 서술방법을 취하고 있다는 점이 특징이 다. 홍범도외 허구의 인물을 드러내지만, 현실에 대한 투철한 상황인식이 작품에 내포되어 있다. 항일무장투쟁이 사회 전반에 미치는 영향에 대한 거시적인 안목이 보인다. 본고는 ｢홍범도｣에 나타나는 역사소설의 전개 양상과 항일투쟁의 서사, 아울러 작품이 포괄하고 있는 시대적 의미를 포 착하는 데 목적이 있다. 고려인이 처한 사회ㆍ역사적 상황을 고려하고 홍 범도에 대한 역사적 자료와 더불어 작품을 연구하고자 한다. 고려인 이주민들은 실향의식을 통한 내적인 슬픔의 깊이와 상실의식을 고려인문학을 통해서 드러낸다. 이 점에서 시대의 암울함을 이야기하고 있다고 볼 수 있고, 이는 그대로 그들의 역사의식으로 나타낸다. 자신들이 당한 강제 이주에 대한 황량함과 절망적인 현실을 인지하고 있는 것을 알 수 있다. 또 거 주지역이라는 공간을 전면에 드러내어 정착지가 없다는 슬 픔에서 오는 상실감에 대한 ‘근원’의 문제를 보여준다. 고려인문학에서 나타나는 홍범도를 살펴보면 그는 고난과 역경을 없애 면서 새로운 힘으로 세상을 연다는 인물의 모습을 보이고 있다. 이는 자기 극복을 한 신념의 인간 등장이라고 볼 수 있다. 새로운 세상을 위해 자신 을 스스로 희생할 민중의 영웅적 인물의 등장을 의미하는 것이다. ｢홍범도｣는 항일무장투쟁을 중심으로 진행되고 있기 때문에 그 안에서 윤리적으로 문제 되는 부분이 대두하기도 한다. 전투에서 나타나는 생명 경시는 이러한 부분을 노출하고 있는 것으로 볼 수 있다. 항일무장투쟁은 인간의 존엄성과 주체성을 지키기 위한 하나의 방편이 되지만 삶에 대한 경시 문제는 윤리적 갈등을 내포하는 것으로 볼 수 있다. ｢홍범도｣는 윤리적 갈등 안에서 현실도피가 아닌 새로운 민중의 가치관 을 형성하고 있다. 갈등의 소재는 존재에 대해 암담함과 소외 제시하고 현재 삶이 한계 상황에 있음을 보여준다. 그러나 이러한 갈등은 현실의 모순을 직 시하고, 이질적인 생명과 상황에 대한 비애를 수용했다고 볼 수 있다. ｢홍범도｣는 격정적으로 현실을 살아온 홍범도를 통해 작품 안에 불안 한 내면의식을 지속적으로 표출했다고 볼 수 있다. 작품 안에 윤리적 갈등 이 제기되는 것은 허무주의의 발현이자, 긍정적인 사회적 인간의 부재로 볼 수 있을 것이다. 김세일은 홍범도라는 인물을 통해 기형적인 현실을 타 개하겠다는 본질을 깊숙이 인식한다. 그러나 영웅주의를 바탕으로 갈등을 해결하지 않고 민중주의적 관점으로 이해하는 것은 작품이 지니는 한계라 고 볼 수 있을 것이다. 김세일은 일본의 탄압에 투쟁하여 승리하는 민족의 역사를, 소련의 탄압으로 중앙아시아에서 거주하게 된 삶과 능동적으로 마주하고 있다. 이는 민족의 정체성의 문제를 작품 속에서 나타내는 것으 로 고려인들의 역사에 대한 이해로 볼 수 있다.
