This paper was written for giving fundamental understanding about self representation of North Korean Refugees based on the object relation’s theory. By this, more sophisticated and more improved pastoral care could be performed for North Korean Refugees. I used the analyze report “basic question survey North Korean Refugees in 2010 by North Korean Refugees foundation” as a reference data. The variableness principle should be applied for conducting successful pastoral care. Therefore there is a huge gap between self-representation of North Korean refugees and self representation of South Korean. Naturally the pastoral care or counseling need to be different. Here is a streamline of study. First, I looked over the concept of self representation. After that I researched some demanded experiences for developing healthy self-representation using by Object relation theory. The self representation of single person formalizes his own life and all relationship in a fixed way. Because human being is connected by endless self representations and is experienced. The major characteristics of North Korean ‘self representation are image of tough and aggressive’, ‘image of closed self representation’, and ‘self representation image of sense of instability’. They are suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder, alexithymia, and depression. To solve these problems, I suggest that holding community experience, rich relational relationship. On this research, I described “How healthy psychological structure is formed in a single man. And how to self representation is made.” The presence appearance of person is internalized product of all the objects and relational experiences. Although North Korean refugees seem like having a peaceful life in a South Korea, their terrible experiences became serious trauma, which gives emotional pain until now. Therefore the counselor who related with North Korean refugees should understanding their pain and treating them.

본 논문의 목적은 대상관계이론에 기초하여 북한이탈주민들의 자기표상에 대한 심층적인 이해를 갖고자 했다. 그럼으로써 그들을 위한 보다 더 정교하고 향상된 목회적 돌봄을 수행할 수 있다고 생각한다. 이를 위하여 북한이탈주민지원재단이 발표한 “2010년 북한이탈주민 기초설문조사 분석보고서”를 자료로 활용했다. 목회적 돌봄에는 가변성의 원리가 적용되어야 한다. 따라서 북한이탈주민과 남한주민의 자기표상은 현격한 차이가 있고 이에 대한 목회적 돌봄이나 상담은 당연히 달라야 한다. 논문의 전개는 다음과 같다. 먼저 자기와 자기표상의 개념을 살펴본 후 대상관계이론으로 건강한 자기표상 형성을 위하여 어떠한 경험이 필요한지에 관하여 연구하였다. 한 개인의 자기표상은 자신의 삶과 모든 대인관계를 고정된 방식으로 유형화한다. 왜냐하면, 인간은 끊임없이 자기표상에 의하여 관계를 맺고 경험하는 존재이기 때문이다. 북한이탈주민들의 자기표상의 특징은 ‘거칠고 공격적인 자기표상 이미지’, ‘폐쇄적인 자기표상 이미지’, ‘안정감이 결여된 자기표상 이미지’이다. 북한이탈주민은 외상 후 스트레스와 감정표현 불능증, 우울증에 시달리고 있다. 이에 대한 대안으로 안아주는 공동체 경험, 관계적 교제의 풍요로움, 실존적 의미와 가치추구를 제시하였다. 본 논문에서는 한 개인이 어떻게 건강한 심리구조를 형성하고 어떻게 자기표상이 형성되는지에 관하여 설명했다. 나의 현재의 모습은 지금까지의 모든 대상과 관계경험의 결과물이 내재화된 것이다. 북한이탈주민은 비록 지금 자유대한에 품에서 평온한 생활을 하는 것 같지만 그들이 경험한 끔찍한 경험은 심각한 외상이 되어 지금도 정서적으로 고통을 주고 있다. 그러므로 북한이탈주민을 돌보는 상담자는 먼저 이들의 상처를 이해하고 돌봐야 할 것이다.
