This study was conducted using a game play group counseling for underachieved children in elementary school. The study was designed to research the changes in learning motivation (self-confidence, self-efficacy, preference for task level) and resistance to academic failure (such as feelings, behaviors and preference for task difficulty) Eleven learning-disabled children in 5th and 6th grades in elementary school at G city participated in the study. The subjects in the study scored low in basic learning evaluation and were tested for measuring academic self-efficacy and resistance to academic failure in learning tests. We performed game play group counseling programs for 12 times to improve the children’s learning skills and analyzed each children through participatory observation evaluation. At the end of the programs, pre-and post-tests were compared and the results were analyzed. The result showd that a significant improvement has been found in academic self-efficacy and resistance to academic failure through game play group counseling programs.

본 연구에서는 초등학교 학습부진 학생을 대상으로 게임놀이 학업동기 집단상담을 실시하고 학업동기의 변화, 특히 학업적 자기효능감(자신감, 자기조절 효능감, 과제수준 선호)과 학업적 실패내성(감정, 행동, 과제난이도선호)의 변화를 살펴보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 G광역시 초등학교 5, 6학년 학습부진 학생 11명이 연구에 참여하였고, 이들은 학교에서 실시한 기초학습능력평가에서 평균 ‘하’에 해당되는 학생들이었다. 게임놀이 학업동기 집단상담 프로그램(총12회)의 효과를 알아보기 위하여 프로그램의 실시 전과 후로 구분하여 학습동기 검사를 실시하여 대응표본검증(Paired T-test)을 실시하였고, 프로그램 과정 동안 학생들이 보이는 행동특성의 질적 변화를 알아보기 위하여 참여관찰을 통한 내용 분석을 실시하였다. 그 결과 게임놀이 학업동기 집단상담 프로그램을 실시한 이후 학업적 자기효능감과 학업적 실패내성이 증가하여 학생들의 학업동기가 통계적으로 유의미하게 향상된 것으로 나타났고, 행동특성 변화에 대한 행동관찰 내용 분석에서도 아동들의 행동변화가 나타난 것으로 관찰되었다. 따라서 이러한 결과는 게임놀이 학업동기 집단상담 프로그램이 초등학교 학습부진 학생의 학업동기 향상에 긍정적 영향을 미치고 있음을 보여준다 하겠다.
