Modern architecture in the Korean urban environment possesses significant historical meaning and value. However, many historical buildings have been disappearing due to the lack of preservation efforts, which is fueled by the country's strong focus on industrial development and anti-Japanese sentiment. During its rapid economic growth, Korea focused heavily on economc development and failed to recognize the cultural value of old buildings, which in turn led to a lack of research on preservation. This study proposes systematic methods of preservation to offer citizens an opportunuty to enjoy what modern architecture has to offer and to add richness to the identity of cities.
