This research explores how the political communication channels affect the first-time voter’s political socialization and voting. Through multiple linear regression analyses, it appeares that only internet predicts the first-time voter’s the political socialization significantly: political efficacy, interest and information about election. The logistic regression analysis shows that the conversation with family and internet have significantly influence on the first-time voter’s participation in voting. However the traditional media such as the report of newspaper and TV that the first-time voter could be expose to frequently and easily have no influence on the participation in voting.

본 연구는 우리나라에서 연구가 활성화되지 않은 초도 유권자를 대상으로 커뮤니케이션 이용이 정치사회화와 투표 참여에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지를 탐색하였다. 정치사회화 변인인 선거 관심, 정치 효능감, 선거 정보에 대한 다중회귀분석 결과는 인터넷 이용만이 유의미한 영향을 미치고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 실제적 정치 행위의 하나인 투표 참여 여부에 대한 이분형 로지스틱 회귀분석 결과에서는 가족과의 대화와 인터넷 이용이 유의미한 영향을 미치고 있었다. 실제 유권자들이 가장 쉽게 노출될 것으로 예상되는 전통 미디어인 신문 보도와 텔레비전 보도는 투표참여 여부에 유의미한 영향력을 미치지 못했다.
