As developing an info-communication technology, the distance training for teachers has been increasingly prevalent and the need for individualized distance training programs has been important. The purpose of this study is to find out problems in distance teacher training and to provide the ways how to individualize programs and methods. To address the research questions, distance training institutes were analyzed to find out how distance training was fulfilled and a survey was conducted to identify what problems distance-training programs were confronted with and what teachers expected from them. The results were as follows: The sort of programs about personal life and school organization should gradually be increased and teacher professional courses should be prepared at advanced level by offering every possible aid to distance teacher training institutes. In addition, distance teacher training programs need to be specialized and well publicized. Also, it is necessary to increase teacher's computer using abilities and to reduce the reluctance in interaction.

첨단 매체를 이용한 정보통신기술이 날로 발전하면서 교원현직교육에 있어서도 교원원격연수가 확대되고 있다. 이에 따라 교원의 다양한 요구에 맞는 개별화 된 원격연수의 필요성 또한 증가하고 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 연수 프로그램의 다양화, 수준차별화 및 연수방법의 다양화 방안을 모색하여 궁극적으로 초등교원 원격연수 개별화 방안을 제시하기 위하여 이루어졌다. 연구 문제의 해결을 위해 인터넷을 이용하여 현재 운영 중인 모든 원격연수원의 실태를 조사하였으며, 또한 서울특별시 내 초등학교 교원을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 설문내용은 원격연수 프로그램의 종류, 각 프로그램의 내용 수준, 원격연수방법에 대한 요구였고, 이를 통하여 내린 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 교사 개인적 영역과 학교 조직적 영역에 해당하는 원격연수 프로그램의 양적 증대가 필요하다. 교사 전문적 영역에 해당하는 프로그램은 심화 수준으로 구성되어야하며, 웹상에서 교원들의 상호작용이 촉진되어야한다. 이를 위하여 원격연수원에 대한 지원 강화 및 원격연수원의 프로그램의 특성화, 원격연수의 홍보가 요구되며, 교원들의 웹상에서의 상호작용에 대한 인식의 전환과 함께 컴퓨터 사용능력을 향상시키기 위한 노력이 필요하다.
