In terms of the design of the residential complex, the methods to activate community through realizing traditionality have been the object of planner’s constant interest, and the methods to actualize it have been also sought continually. Unlike the efforts that have been made in architectural area from a long time ago, in the area of urban and complex planning, the research of application through the characteristics and analysis of traditional space has been conducted by some researchers; however, research to make it as a strategy for modern urban space and realize it generally has been performed relatively less. Thereupon, this study analyzes the new city of Dongtan (2)’s design plan for the pilot community complex master plan. With that, from the aspects of complex and urban design, this paper conducts theoretical consideration on traditional villages and the establishment of concept and also examines strategies to apply each of the elements demanded in complex planning. For the research, this study explores traditional villages and analyzes various literatures of old times, and with the suggestion of design plans, it intends to grope for strategies. Realization of traditional space can be approached with the space of streets and madang. And this can be systematized separately into the village’s exterior roads, interior roads (Gosat), or eogui madang. Also, in the application to the modern apartment housing complex, these elements can be approached with the exterior space including auxiliary welfare facilities, sarangchae’s community facilities, vegetable gardens, playgrounds, symbolic icons, or brooks. To activate communities in the apartment housing complex, it is needed to clarify the area of the village and also the entrance of it to secure territoriality. And so as to activate community activities for the village’s residents, it is necessary to arrange it considering the space and location of the community space.

현대사회에서 주거단지의 설계에 있어 커뮤니티의 문제는 지속적인 단지계획의 문제로 제기되어 왔으며, 이를 개선하기 위한 방안은 지속적으로 논의 되어왔다. 일찍부터 건축적 측면에서는 전통성의 구현에 대해 지속적 관심을 가져왔던 반면 도시 및 단지계획 측면에서는 이와 같은 요구는 지속되었으나 소극적인 계획양상에 머물러 왔던 것이 사실이다. 이에 본 연구를 통해 동탄(2) 신도시 커뮤니티 시범단지 마스터를랜 현상설계안의 분석을 통해 전통성에 대한 이론적 고찰과 함께 단지계획에서 요구되는 각 요소의 적용 전략에 대해 살펴보았다. 전통적 공간의 구현은 길과 마당의 공간으로 전략화 될 수 있으며, 이는 각각 마을 바깥길, 마을안길(고샅), 마을 샛길, 마을 뒷길, 그리고 마을 어귀마당, 마을 바깥마당, 마을 안마당으로 세분화 하여 접근할 수 있다. 그리고 이들 요소는 부대복리시설, 사랑채의 커뮤니티시설과 텃밭, 놀이터, 체육시설, 정자, 마을 상징물, 담장(용벽), 개불(수로)등을 포함하는 외부공간으로 접근할 수 있다. 이에 대한 결과로 첫째, 전통성의 적용에 있어 직접적, 은유적 적용 등 요소에 따른 차별화된 접근이 필요하다. 둘째, 현대사회의 생활패턴 변화와 전통과의 적절한 관계 해석을 통한 적용이 필요하다. 셋째, 실제 적용과적에서 계획가가 제안한 개념에 대해 적극적인 반영의 의지가 필요하다. 이상과 같은 전략을 통해 도시 및 단지차원의 전통성 구현에 대한 적극적 방안 모색이 가능할 것으로 판단된다.
