Potential risk to predators and local population from the marine contaminated sediments
초록
영어
We assessed the health risk for human population exposed to As, Cd, Chlordane, DDT and PCB by consuming fish living in a contaminated marine environment. TrophicTrace® software was used to estimate the body burden of contaminants in greenling (Hexagrammos otakii) and flounder (Pleuronectes herzensteini) with the conceptual food web models for a given site and to calculate carcinogenic risk and noncarcinogenic hazard indices (HI), respectively, for the human population. The carcinogenic risk and HI varied greatly depending on the fish species and sediment organic carbon contents at the given site. Improved knowledge on the trophic transfer of contaminants in the food web would be necessary for the construction of reliable ecosystem based tool for the management of contaminated sediments.
