The purpose of this study was to compare the science gifted students' understanding of content by two different types of texts, which were narrative and expository. Science gifted elementary students' preference of the two types of the texts were also investigated. In the comparison of the understanding of the text contents, test scores of closed-answer question, essay test, and mind-mapping were used. The analyses of the closed-answer questions and essay test, there was no difference between the two types of texts. In the mind-mapping tests, the test scores were not different. The expository text, however, was more effective in the hierarchical organization of the concepts. The analyses of the science gifted students' preference of the texts showed that narrative texts were preferred. Students perceived that the narrative text was more interesting and familiar. However, the perceptions of more helpful text for their science learning were different by students.

본 연구에서는 정보적 텍스트의 유형에 따른 과학 영재들의 내용 이해도를 비교하고, 서로 다 른 유형의 정보적 텍스트 유형에 대한 학생들의 선호도 및 인식을 조사하였다. 내용 이해도는 단답형 검사, 자유응답식 검사, 마인드맵 검사를 통하여 이루어졌으며, 분석 결과 단답형 검사와 자유응답식 검사에서 텍스트 유형에 따른 내용 이해도에는 유의미한 차이가 없었다. 그러나 자유응답식 검사 내 용을 살펴본 결과, 4학년과 5, 6학년의 텍스트 유형에 따른 응답 서술 방식에서는 차이가 있었다. 마 인드맵 검사에서는 전체 검사 점수에서는 텍스트 유형에 따른 차이가 없었으나 설명식 텍스트를 읽 은 후에 작성한 마인드맵이 보다 체계적인 것으로 나타났다. 텍스트 유형에 따른 선호도 비교 결과, 초등과학 영재학생들은 이야기식 텍스트가 보다 흥미롭고 친근하다는 면에서 보다 더 선호하는 경 향이 있었다. 그러나 학습에 도움이 되는 텍스트에 대한 응답은 텍스트 유형에 따라 큰 차이가 없었 으며 학생들에 따라 선택에 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다.
